Full-Time Technical Editor (Houston, TX)
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research, rewrite, edit, and proofread technical material for maintenance manuals, flight manuals, checklists, and other related publications.
- Meet with the subject matter experts to validate technical changes.
- Work with other staff members to complete the document development.
- Coordinate document production from initial concepts to hard copy and electronic distribution.
- Prepare meeting minutes and action items list and follow through until actions are closed.
- Quality check the hard copy and electronic files of the documents to ensure all requirements are met prior to submitting documents to external review and final delivery.
- Prepare deliverable packages of hard copies and electronic files for release, duties include: converting Microsoft Word documents to Portable Document Format (PDF) and adding or editing bookmarks, hyperlinks, notes, and comments to Microsoft Word and PDF files, as required.
- Provide weekly inputs to the Lead, summarizing the major support provided during the week. Maintain configuration control of electronic files as well as hard copy historical files.
Required Skills:
- Strong technical editing and writing skills and be able to re-write technical material into very clear and plain operation or maintenance instructions used by technical and non-technical personnel.
- Proficient in performing technical editing in accordance with NASA standards.
- Experience with documentation development, review, approval, configuration management, and change implementation.
- Excellent organizational, coordination, customer service skills, and ability to work independently.
- Experience developing internal technical editing and writing procedures.
- Coordinating with subject matter experts to produce a quality publication on schedule
- MUST be a US Citizen
Desired Skills:
Have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Adobe Acrobat.
Education:
Bachelor degree and three years of technical writing and editing experience; or high school diploma or equivalent and six years continuous technical writing and editing experience.
