Full-Time Instructional Designer (Tysons Corner, VA)

Job Description

The Instructional Designer will designs, develops, tailors, and maintains courses in Acquisition and Contracting open-enrollment curriculum, as well as materials for on-sites and training contracts.  Responsible for identifying issues that affect assigned courses, coordinating with subject matter experts, and completing work to meet production schedules for upcoming classes.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Participates on product development team to develop content and learning for a variety of audiences and delivery methods.
  2. Leads and manages course development projects.
  3. Collaborates with subject matter experts and clients to assess and clarify needs and makes recommendations for specific learning solutions.
  4. Evaluates the effectiveness and impact of learning.
  5. Shares course design and content knowledge with instructors.
  6. Maintains and revises course materials to reflect changes in law, regulation, philosophy, or practice and to address instructor or student feedback.
  7. Conducts research on federal contracting topics for continued advancement in subject matter knowledge and to help address student and instructor questions and feedback.
  8. Maintains currency as to changes in federal acquisition regulations, laws, and legal decisions through review of publications and participation in information exchanges.

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

 

  1. Familiarity with government acquisition and contracting.
  2. Synchronous and asynchronous online course development.
  3. Experience with Xyleme or other content management system.
  4. Experience with Moodle, Captivate, and Adobe eLearning Suite.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  1. Expertise and application in Adult Learning Theory.
  2. Proven expertise using instructional methods and training techniques, including curriculum design principles and blended learning strategies.
  3. Ability to partner with Subject Matter Experts to develop learning objectives and training content that results in information that is relevant and complete.
  4. Problem solving and decision making skills.
  5. Organizational and planning skills.
  6. Excellent grasp of American English grammar and usage.
  7. Ability to write clearly and effectively.
  8. Ability to understand and interpret federal acquisition laws, regulations, policy, and some technical terms.
  9. Ability to extract key information from governmentwide regulations and guidance and present it in a reader-friendly manner, making use of information mapping techniques where appropriate.
  10. Excellent research and creative thinking skills.
  11. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills.
  12. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects as well as work in a team.
  13. Strong internal and external customer orientation.
  14. Quality focus and attention to detail.
  15. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in instructional design, adult education, or a related field requiring research, analysis and writing skills.
  2. Instructional design training and experience highly desired.
  3. Two years experience designing and developing student-learning, applied training solutions.
  4. Federal contracting, legal or public policy experience a plus.
