Full-Time Content Manager (San Francisco, CA)

Job Description

Content Manager is a pivotal managerial role on Kiva’s marketing and communications team, and could easily be called the “editor in chief” of the organization. By helping craft and manage outbound communications via the Kiva website, email, social media channels, blog properties and more, this role helps shape Kiva’s voice, identity and global brand. It is also responsible for bringing the work Kiva does in the field to life for the organization’s engaged and growing lending community. Acting as a conduit for incredible stories, photos and other visuals from the 70+ countries where we work, the Content Manager decides how to use these materials to demonstrate the impact of Kiva’s work, activate more lenders, and find new channels to spread the word.
Responsibilities
Ensure that lender communications are consistent, compelling and effective to promote engagement; oversee all written content and work closely with design and video production to create cohesive, inspiring messaging.
Create and ensure that guidelines for content are communicated across the organization so that Kiva is speaking in one voice to its lender community, and also communicating effectively with its partners in the field and other stakeholders.
Review and maintain accountability for all content going out through Kiva’s blog properties, social media channels, marketing emails, newsletters, and more.
Bring exposure to Kiva’s amazing partnerships through content on the website, blogs and social media channels. Work with our partnerships and portfolio staff to be tactical about how partners and loans are promoted to Kiva’s lenders.
Create a pipeline for content from the field to end users, so that a steady stream of videos, photos and inspiring stories are available for use by the public relations team, other members of the marketing team, the site’s designers, and Kiva’s development team in raising funds.
Devise a way to share inspiring field content with both Kiva lenders and the internal Kiva community to make it clear how microfinance is making a difference worldwide and while their continued contributions are vital.
Think strategically about where and what content should appear across the Kiva website and how photos, infographics and video can be leveraged to engage lenders and increase the organization’s exposure.
Be creative and strategic in determining new opportunities to share Kiva’s content with the public (i.e. Google Hangouts, Pinterest, offline events).
Work closely with all departments in the organization to make sure text and design of web products and sites is clear, instructive, and enhances ease of use. Confer regularly with the product team to make sure all text across all websites is consistent, polished and professional.
Think through how interfaces on the Kiva website could be improved and work with relevant staff members to complete improvement projects end-to-end.
Create and maintain systems to closely and carefully track Kiva’s field partnerships, content changes throughout the website, work contributed by fellows and staff members and other content coming in from the field.
Support the Public Relations Director and Communications Manager where relevant with editorial guidance and other written materials.
Cultivate relationships with field experts in social media and work closely with our existing social media advisory board to optimize exposure and engagement on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc.
Be willing to do everything from proofreading short sentences to restructuring entire pages on the website with the help of multiple departments.
Required Skills
Demonstrated excellence in the art and science of copy writing, and the ability to make complex concepts simple and engaging.
Understanding of microfinance and international development strongly preferred.
7+ years experience in journalism, online marketing, and/or content management.
Understand how to represent a consumer brand well across a variety of communication channels.
Deep familiarity and experience with social media marketing.
Skilled at working collaboratively with multiple teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strategic thinker with the ability to balance competing needs, generate creative approaches, and manage uncertainty.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to think about long-term content strategy and operations, as well as juggle multiple short-term deadlines.
Tech savvy, including easy and facile use of Google Docs and applications, database software and more.
Some experience with photo editing via Adobe PhotoShop or another image editor.
Some experience writing HTML and working with content management systems.

Preferred Skills
Experience working with databases, especially Salesforce.
Familiarity with cloud computing tools like Dropbox, Box, and Google Drive.
Alternative language, either Spanish or French.
