Job Description The Team
Kiva Marketing & Communications is a rapidly growing team that will reach 10 full time employees and a team of interns this year. We operate as a “start-up” in that we move fast, everybody counts, and your contribution would make one of the biggest impacts on Kiva and its global operations. Our team, and this role in particular, serves all parts of the organization, providing guidance and support to teams and content areas beyond Marketing.
The Role
The Content Manager’s goal is to make public facing communications compelling, consistent, brand-appropriate, and effective in driving user acquisition and engagement. Primary output will be in the form of copy, with extensive involvement in curating photography, video storytelling and PR messaging.
Collaborate closely with the Product team to produce copy around campaigns, text for Kiva.org, and new features and process flows to help lenders understand and deeply engage with the Kiva website and tools.
Spot check content being generated across the organization to maintain consistency across channels. Examples:
Marketing emails: Develop and review copy with various calls to action.
Social media posts: Set strategy for and review social media messaging.
Kiva Blog: Set agenda for the blog, write and edit posts, and track engagement
Curate text, photo, and video content to surface the most compelling stories from across the Kiva ecosystem, including borrower stories, field partner news, country reports, company news. Coordinate company-wide messaging themes. Examples:
Updates Tab on Kiva.org: Select/schedule the right mix of content to help lenders learn about and do more with Kiva.
Future modules on Lend Tab and Loan Detail pages on the Updates Tab, and potentially elsewhere on Kiva.org
Themed messaging: Create a cross-channel messaging theme schedule for the marketing team to use to spread the word about campaigns, new features, new partners, and more.
Research and produce content appropriate for various web, education, and marketing purposes. Collaborate closely with internal subject matter experts, write brand-appropriate content, and review and track readership and impact after launch. Examples:
Web flows: Write text for online web flows, system emails, company information pages, lender help center
Educational pages: Produce new lender education section, including topical pages (focused on types of loans), Kiva’s vision and approach, and an explanation of the social performance of field partners
Marketing collateral: Assist in writing/editing of outbound marketing and development collateral as needed
Work with our portfolio staff to generate text describing our exceptional Field Partner organizations, promote launches of new partnerships, and address any concerns or problem situations with Field Partners. Maintain a database of information about these relationships to inform marketing messages, news pitches, and other members of the Marketing & Communications team.
Act as a support and resource for Public Relations manager on an as-needed basis
Create strategy for and oversee production of content/design/video that may need to be outsourced to agencies or contractors as needed.
Reports to the Community Marketing & Outreach Director, while collaborating closely with Product, the Microfinance Partnerships team, the Kiva Fellows Program, and Legal as important internal customers.
Required Skills
Demonstrated excellence in the art and science of copy writing, and the ability to make complex concepts simple and engaging.
Understanding of Microfinance and International Development strongly preferred.
7+ years experience in journalism, online marketing, and/or Internet content management.
Understand how to represent a consumer brand well across a variety of communication channels.
Skilled at working collaboratively with multiple teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Strategic thinker with the ability to balance competing needs, generate creative approaches, and manage uncertainty.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to think about long-term content strategy and operations, as well as juggle multiple short-term deadlines.
Needs to exhibit Kiva’s TREAT values of transparency, respect, entrepreneurialism, accountability and teamwork.
