POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Technical Writer will design and produce technical documentation for a highly configurable platform software product in a collaborative environment employing Agile development methodologies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the creation of documentation project plans.
Create, maintain and review software product documentation. - Assist in the development of style guides and content standards.
- Provide, record and manage “request for proposal” engineering responses.
- Collaborate with training department to produce technical content that will be utilized as a foundation and/or reference for training materials.
- Produce highly useable technical end user, designer, and administrator product documentation that maximize the ability of the user to understand and use the product.
- Develop a deep knowledge of the products and write technical content to an appropriate level of detail.
- Collaborate effectively with globally-distributed product teams to gather information, get technical review of content drafts, etc.
- Negotiate deliverables when necessary to meet product release schedules.
- Work with the manager and team to develop documentation processes and guidelines.
- Ensure delivery of quality documentation by following review and delivery processes and procedures.
- Ensure proper storage and archiving of documentation by following version control policies and procedures.
- Deliver documentation on schedule with a high degree of quality.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems or computer science, technical communications/writing or similar degree.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years experience as a technical writer.
- Experience creating technical content aimed at administrators and users of Web-based applications.
- Experience developing highly technical developer guides.
- Extensive experience with documentation tools: MS Word, MS Visio, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Robohelp for HTML, Adobe Framemaker is a plus.
- Experience writing documentation for commercial enterprise software products.
- Experience producing documentation in an Agile environment.
