Your Responsibilities
This is a very important new role within our company. At a high level, your job will be to communicate the features and benefits of our software to our customers and prospects. You will also be responsible for our internal written policies and procedures. You must be able to explain technical ideas in simple language.
Our ideal candidate has a lot of energy and is excited about playing a pivotal role in the growth of a company. You will have a lot of visibility internally and will be a key contributor to almost every major initiative we have on the horizon.
The main areas of contribution will be around:
Product
We have been building a great software product for over a decade, but only have very limited documentation for it. You will understand and document all of the features of our product. This will make you an absolute hero to our team. You will ‘own’ our documentation and keep it up to date as the product evolves.
This will include:
– Written descriptions of each of our modules and their features
– Release notes as new features are added
– Training material related to the product
– Online videos and training classes
Marketing
We need the world to see us as the global experts that we are in the areas of mobile asset management and rental. Help our marketing team clearly communicate the features and benefits of our software to our current and prospective customers. Help make us a global authority. Be a storyteller.
This will include:
– Product announcements and descriptions
– Blog posts
– Magazine articles
– White papers
Internal Policies
As our company grows, it is increasingly important that we have well organized and clearly written internal policies and procedures. This is especially true as our customers want more scrutiny over how their data is managed and kept secure.
This will include:
– Written internal policies and procedures
– Compliance with various standards the company may pursue (such as an ISO-9001 certification)
Experience
The ideal candidate has a strong track record of succeeding as a technical writer. The amount of experience can vary, but we will want to talk with references, see examples of your work and have confidence that you will be engaged and happy in this role for many years.
Travel
No significant travel is anticipated in this role, though you may occasionally visit a customer or attend a trade show to ‘get out of the office’ and see the product in use or meet customers face-to-face.
Telecommuting
This job is envisioned as primarily an ‘in the office’ job, but there is some flexibility here. Many of the co-workers you will work with on a day-to-day basis are not located in our offices. Expect to come into the office most of the time, but you will have some flexibility if you can be more productive working from home or somewhere else.
