Job Description
Amazon Game Services team is looking for an experienced technical writer to produce product documentation covering a suite of tools built to simplify game development. The team’s primary objective is to extend Amazon Web Services (AWS) into the video game space by providing game developers with a suite of tools to simplify their development. Your primary responsibility is to delivery high-quality technical publications for game developers. Other responsibilities include provide input into the overall developer experience with APIs and toolsets and set guideline and standard around overall SDK design.Experience delivering developer-oriented technical documentation is required. You must have experience writing documentation for APIs, SDKs, components, and tools. This position requires precise documentation, clear communication, and presentation skills, along with a solid understanding of software engineering. To be successful in this role, you should be comfortable creating and documenting code written in Java or C++ and be well versed in web services (such as REST or SOAP). You should also be comfortable creating sample code and applications that demonstrate individual components of the system, and share this information with others. You have to be a self-starter and be able to interact with developers on your own to get the right information to document. You need to be familiar with open source doc models like DocBook or DITA, and should have experience applying XSLT transformations to HTML. Familiarity with Visual Studio or Eclipse and version control tools is desired.
Basic Qualifications
    • A minimum of 5 years in a technical writing or lead writing role
    • Proven experience designing and delivering developer-oriented documentation
    • Experience using multiple documentation tools to develop base templates and manipulate output styles
    • Experience working with a programming language such as C, C++, C#, Java, etc.
    • Experience with XML-based publishing systems
    • A thorough understanding of software development lifecycle
Preferred Qualifications
    • Degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field highly desirable
    • Some experience with game development, web services and related technologies a plus
    • Previous experience working in an agile programming environment a plus
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Experience working directly with development teams
    • Strong grammar skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
