Full-Time Instructional Designer (San Francisco, CA)
Job Description
Teachscape seeks an instructional designer with experience building interactive, multimedia-based content for use in K-12 professional development. This full-time position is based in San Francisco.
Position Overview
The instructional designer designs, writes, and oversees content for a variety of online resources and print materials. The research-based professional learning resources developed by the instructional designer include:
· Best practice videos of real teachers in real classrooms
· Lesson plans and student work from featured lessons
· Opportunities to reflect on what works and doesn’t work in classrooms
· A range of other experiences that promote analysis of teaching and learning to improve professional practice
Specific Responsibilities
Content Development
- Act as lead instructional designer to oversee the design and structure of professional learning resources
- Develop media inventories, video outlines, and propose design for online courses
- Write and edit content for a variety of online and print materials including project blueprints, conceptual designs, video design, online content, and facilitator materials
- Develop and write specifications for graphic, interactive and other multimedia needs
- Develop print and online product training resources for Teachscape technology tools and applications
- Work closely with other instructional designers on strategic planning and special projects as needed
Client Relations
- Act as Teachscape’s primary contact with internal and external clients for content development work
- Be responsible for maintaining client relationships
- Communicate with clients and partners to get direction and gather feedback
- Confirm and receive client approval on development plans, and on all aspects of instructional design
Project Management
- Develop and manage timelines, production schedules, and budgets to meet deadlines.
- Lead and support efforts of content development team including instructional designers, video producers, and video editors to ensure deliverables meet client’s expectations
- Maintain and ensure the quality of the materials being developed meets Teachscape standards
- Manage and coordinate with members of the production team (text editors, graphic designer, web developers) to ensure that deliverables meet client’s expectations and are delivered on time
- Communicate regularly with Teachscape staff about status on projects, including Vice President, Instructional Effectiveness; Director of Production; members of professional services teams, and/or Account Executive
Requirements
- Experience in the design and development of interactive instructional materials
- Knowledge of school settings is essential; teaching experience in K-12 settings a plus
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, specifically, the ability to raise issues in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage production schedules, and pay attention to detail
- Strong consulting capability, including the ability to articulate the strategic intentions of clients or projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, concise executive-level presentations or positioning documents
- Ability to supervise and manage additional contract writers or editors (as needed)
- Awareness of instructional design standards and methodologies
- Experience in training course design and multi-media applications
- Knowledge of e-learning activities
