Since 1994 Insitu has led in the design, development and production of small autonomous aircraft for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). We currently produce and sell an ever growing fleet of Unmanned Aircraft Systems that are low-cost, long-endurance, and have low personnel requirements. These UASs provide a no-runway launch, unprecedented stabilized day and night video for ISR, robotic flight control, and a no-nets capture.As we continue our rapid growth in the UAS/UAV market we are looking for experienced talent to help us achieve our goal of maintaining the agile and innovative problem-solving capabilities in all the products we offer.
Opportunity Details:
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
A Technical Writer writes and/or edits technical documents, such as operator manuals, pocket handbooks, emergency procedure instructions, and related technical publications to clearly and effectively communicate technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. The selected individual acquires subject knowledge by interviewing engineers and end-users, observing performance and production methods, referring to technical specifications, engineering illustrations, etc. Also oversees preparation of illustrations, diagrams, and charts; Conducts quality review of materials. Also supports proposal writing, forms preparation, and other projects as required. 

Specific Duties/Responsibilities: 

This position will specifically be responsible for the following:

  • Manage the S1000D common-source database
  • Maintain source files and source file structure
  • Develop and maintain authoring templates (XML and FrameMaker)
  • Develop and maintain documentation workflows
  • Troubleshoot authoring tools and coordinate solutions
  • Support writing projects as required
Knowledge – Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of the S1000D specification
  • Experience with Arbortext or other XML authoring software
  • Experience managing a common-source database
  • Experience with HTML and cascading style sheets (CSS) preferred
  • Experience with scripting
  • Experience with SharePoint
  • Experience with Adobe tools (FrameMaker and Creative Suite) preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and writing)
  • Ability to thrive in and contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Ability to prioritize among competing demands and achieve success with aggressive timelines and limited resources.
  • Proven aptitude for problem resolution.
Education:
Preferred:  6 to 9 years related experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, or 4 to 7 years related experience with a Masters Degree or equivalent experience
