Contract Technical Writer
San Francisco, CA (Located in the dynamic SOMA neighborhood)
Sony Network Entertainment (SNEI) is a division of Sony Corporation of America, a leading entertainment company of audio, video, communications and information technology products, for consumer and professional markets.
The SNEI Entertainment Experiences Development Group is charged with delivering next-generation network entertainment experiences – across all media types (video, TV, music, games, and books) and across all devices (TV, web, tablets, game consoles, Blu-ray players and smartphones). Although focused on client experiences, the team also develops key service application components to deliver these new experiences. The Contract Technical Writer will work with software developers to deliver technical documentation for our service APIs, tools, and operational manuals. The Technical Writer will work closely with the Technical Program Managers and Engineering Managers who will define the requirements of the documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for creating new docs and edit existing docs, including ones that are released in the PlayStation® SDK
Independently use new features, interview developers, and review existing documentation.
Capture screenshots and prepare them for use in documentation and manuals
General editing/proofreading
Qualifications
2+ years experience as a technical writer in a software development environment
Experience in writing modular, single-source documentation
Experience working directly with engineering teams
Experience with source control
Excellent documenting, training and presentation skills
Familiarity with REST services, Java, HTML and JavaScript
Strongly preferred
Software development background, preferably in Java
Active part of technical writing groups and communities
Ability to write and/or speak in other languages (especially Japanese)
