Full-Time Technical Writer (Austin, TX)

Job Description

Responsibilities
• Researches and investigates product software functionality
• Works closely with program experts to verify software features
• Initiate software anomaly reports as necessary
• Researches and resolves assigned anomaly reports
• Conducts, reviews and oversees documentation inspections
• Acquires and edits screen shots of software user interfaces
• Documents steps and procedures to operate software in accordance with established standards and processes
• Updates documentation standards and processes as required
• Uses source control tools to store documentation products
• Attends software product meetings as required
• Participates in team meetings
• Submits completed documents for inspection and make corrections according to inspection results
• Directs junior team members efforts toward product software research
• Reviews design and requirements docs and software functionality and offers suggestions and recommendations via anomaly and defect reports
• Uses help authoring tools to write documentation and insert screen captures according to established practices
• Appropriately stores documents in source control
• Uses design and requirements documentation and developer expertise to gain understanding of features
• Resolves storage issues promptly
• Collaborates with management and team leads as needed
• Stays abreast of status of ongoing documentation projects
• Helps to mitigate identified risks and obstacles
• Regularly communicates with documentation team members for consistency and to avoid conflicts
• Coordinates efforts with build team and other departments as necessary
• Provides mentorship and direction to more junior Technical Writers
• Reviews and critiques work products from other Technical Writers
• Must interact with Functional Manager, Team Leads and product personnel
Qualifications

• Masters Degree with 3 years relevant experience or Bachelors degree with 7 years relevant experience
• Must be US citizen
• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance

Other Qualifications
• A basic knowledge of Military Intelligence disciplines is preferred
• Documentation tools and methodologies, RoboHelp experience preferred
• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
• Be self-motivated to receive and provide directions and work alone
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Ability to learn new tools and techniques
• Documentation software and methodologies
• Ability to work within time constraints and with changing priorities
• Internal teamwork and coordination
