Overview:
We are looking for an innovative and organized manager to transform kCura’s current product documentation set into a fully integrated, interactive, user-friendly, and cross-referenced encyclopedia of Relativity information that can be consumed via the web on any platform.
Your challenge: inherit a set of legacy documentation written by non-writers that has amassed to more than 70 individual documents and thousands of pages of content delivered via PDF, and continue its transformation.
Your resources: 6 talented writers eager to embark on any challenge put in front of
them, full integration with our engineering team, and a CEO who values the importance and impact of what high-quality reference materials mean for customers who want to maximize their investment in our products.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development and evolution of a documentation set that contains the following:

  • Technical guides for installing, upgrading, and maintaining our products;
  • Complete and authoritative end user and administrative guides, which are the ultimate reference manual for our products;
  • Quick start guides that help our clients get up and running quickly;
  • Best practices that help our clients maximize their investment in Relativity;
  • A complex and robust software development kit (SDK) that contains complete API documentation, how-to guides, and best practices for building upon and extending Relativity.

Work with various teams to understand product documentation needs and convert the results into the team’s roadmap, goals, objectives, resource requirements, and budget.
Drive strategy, direction, tooling, and design of documentation deliverables across multiple products and delivery mediums.
Assist team members with activities related to scoping level of effort, defining deliverables, issue resolution and mitigation, and team dynamics. Evolve internal team standards, procedures, processes, and best practices to ensure efficient resource utilization and professional, accurate, and easily consumable product documentation.
Manage team workload to maximize efficiency and ensure each writer is able to successfully support the documentation needs of multiple Scrum delivery teams. Shift resources to match changes in business priorities as required.
Work with team members to develop their career plans and objectives, providing appropriate coaching and mentoring to help them achieve their personal and departmental goals. This includes setting objectives, weekly one-on-one meetings, regular performance appraisals and feedback, and annual performance reviews.

 

Recruit and train new staff as needed.

 

Serve as the documentation “editorinchief” by reviewing the work of team members to assess compliance with documentation standards, processes, quality, and accuracy.
Serve as a Technical Writer, personally taking on documentation tasks.
Learn to love our products and develop and maintain an expertise in them. The successful candidate is expected to become a Relativity Certified Administrator within the first 120 days of employment.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of technical writing experience
  • 2+ years of managing a documentation or technical team
  • College degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or similar degree preferred
  • Experience writing technical documents in .net framework
  • Previous people management experience
  •  Knowledge of web-based documentation delivery systems/online communities/and other modern trends
  • Proven project and content management experience
  • Passion for creativity and ingenuity
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to influence

 

Familiarity with the following tool sets a plus: Confluence, Madcap Flare, Adobe InDesign, Word, and Visio
