Position Summary
As a member of the Information Technology Division, the Instructional Technology Specialist II will provide leadership and advocacy of technology utilization as part of the University’s online educational initiatives. The Specialist will provide instructional technology consultation and support that facilitates instructional innovation and high-quality multi-modal interaction to increase student learning. The Specialist will investigate, assess, and document the application of learner centered technologies to instruction; develop prototypes for new instructional technology implementations; and provide training on best practices and trends in instructional technology, methods for effective use of technologies in teaching, and use of specialized tools.Working with faculty in developing rich media and instructional technologies to be delivered through course management systems, campus infrastructure, and/or cloud-based services, the Specialist will execute new technology-driven interactive education, engaging in rapid prototyping and iterative development through quick and efficient builds of prototypes and experimentation of other technologies. This position will work with a online team, support client solutions, engage developers, and other team members to achieve technological solutions for instructional problems.

Bachelor’s Degree
Instructional technology or related field.
Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.
Experience Required
3 years
– Experience in development and programming for learning management systems such as Sakai, edX, and Coursera.
– Some experience with media production, format conversion, compression, and Web distribution.

License/Certification Required
Other Skills Required
– Ability to collect end-user instructional goals and needs, and translate them into digital services for in-class, and online use.
– Proficiency in MS Windows and Apple OSX operating systems, with an understanding of how each can affect user experience in the classroom and online.
– Working knowledge of web tools, technologies and best practices, including design development protocols, publishing software, user experience design, quality assurance processes, and multimedia production.
– Ability to create multimedia rich environments through the Web.
– Proficiency with a wide range of video conferencing tools and services.
– Demonstrated proficiency in widely used programming languages and frameworks, such as XML, HTML, CSS, and Java.
– Ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community.
– Commitment to providing outstanding service and support to students, faculty, and staff.
– Excellent communication and customer service skills.
– Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
– Fluent in written and spoken English. Ability to communicate clearly with individual computing users on all levels – in small groups, one on one, and in writing.
Education Preferred
Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, educational technology, or related field.
Experience Preferred
– Five years relevant experience in instructional technology.
– Experience in agile development practices, such as Scrum, Kanban or other tools.
– Experience with exchanging course resources between multiple learning management systems using standard protocols like SCORM and IMS.
– Experience working with higher education faculty.
– Experience developing and delivering training and effective support materials.
License/Certification Preferred
Other Skills Preferred
Knowledge of a wide range of learning tools and multimedia software, (e.g. digital video, Camtasia, audience response systems, etc.).
Test-Driven development abilities.
Proven proficiency in Python.
Ability to write documentation and training materials.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously without splintering.
Strong interest and background in pedagogy and education.
Ability to push content to production servers predictably and cleanly.
Ability to explore, learn, and teach new technologies and pedagogical methods.
