Position Description

Medtronic Diabetes is seeking an associate technical writer who can author and edit product related technical literature. This writer should have the ability to research, organize, and develop writing projects for user materials and supporting software programs by working closely with different project managers from R&D, Regulatory and Marketing. The customers and clients for this technical literature include the patients, nurses, physicians, as well as Medtronic sales, marketing and technical support members. This writer should also have the ability to learn an XML-based document content management system.

 

 

Position Responsibilities

• Research products by reading and studying the product specifications, interviewing subject matter experts, investigating prototype hardware and software, and observing actual uses
• Author technical literature and help-text
• Be an active member of project teams for assigned projects.
• Ensure quality deliverables are created and released
• Follow standards and procedures as required
• Organize and facilitate content review boards for projects assigned
• Perform peer editing duties to ensure that material is consistent and meets marketing and branding requirements

 

 

Basic Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s Degree

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
• 1 year technical writing experience

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Aptitude to learn new product technologies, structured development processes, and database publishing tools
• Be able to work independently and with teams.

 

 

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using a content management system and integrated toolsets
• Degree in English, Technical Communication, or Journalism preferred.
• InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Adobe Illustrator experience
• Ability to produce documents and managing files in a controlled systems environment
• Experience working in an XML (or SGML) structured authoring environment
