POSITION AVAILABLE: Contract Technical Writer (3+ month project)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* BA in Computer Science, Technical Communications, or related field, plus four years of technical writing experience.
* Expert-level proficiency in the authoring and publishing tools Nexenta uses: FrameMaker, Acrobat, RoboHelp.
* Knowledge of data storage and virtualization concepts, including Storage Area Networks, Virtual Machines, filesystems, and RESTful APIs.
* Understanding of UNIX/Linux and the ability to use command line tools.
* Experience working with subject matter experts (SMEs) whose primary language is not English. Fluency in Russian is a plus.
DESCRIPTION:
Nexenta Systems is looking for an experienced contract technical writer for a 3-month project to implement the documentation plan for a new release of the NexentaStor software. The project involves documenting new software features, including a new user interface and CLI, as well as restructuring the existing documentation set based on feedback from the field.
The candidate will serve as the lead writer for the project, with assistance from 1-2 other writers on the Nexenta technical publications team.
Responsibilities include:
* Become knowledgeable about the NexentaStor product, through hands-on use and by reading manuals and training / marketing materials.
* Manage the NexentaStor documentation project: divide tasks among the writers, coordinate reviews, and attend program meetings.
* Serve as the lead writer for a number of manuals, including the NexentaStor User Guide, Installation Guide, and release notes.
* Identify areas for improvement in the documentation.
* Proofread and copy-edit the work of other writers.
