Full-Time Technical Writer – Apps
Job Description
Do you have an interest in GIS that extends beyond writing about what other people put in front of you? Here’s an opportunity to play with new apps built on different platforms and tell their story. Help end users understand why we’re developing an app, how people should think about it, and what its key features are. You’ll work on something new all the time as you change your focus to whichever app is moving quickly through development.
Responsibilities:
– Work closely with our engineers to understand features and products
– Research, plan, write, and maintain documentation
– Collaborate with team members during design and development of products
– Author documentation for global audiences with a variety of technical backgrounds
– Maximize efficiency and success of app users
– Create interactive examples and tutorials
Requirements:
– You have a passion for writing and strong explanatory, procedural, and creative writing abilities
– 2+ years of experience writing about software or other technical writing experience
– You acquire, understand, and share technical information with ease
– You have experience with:
– Content management systems and documentation workflows
– Authoring tools
– Following writing guidelines for style and tone
– All the other important things that will help you be successful at Esri: good communication skills, a team player who can also fly solo, and the ability to thrive in an environment that changes often
– Bachelor’s or master’s in technical writing, English, communications, GIS, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Recommended Qualifications:
– You have knowledge of writing documentation for reuse across products
– Experience with capturing and enhancing images
– You have designed, created, and/or edited instructional videos in the past
– Bonus points if you have an understanding of GIS
