Axioma is seeking an experienced technical writer to join the product management team in our New York office. This position reports to the Vice President of Product Management.
The Technical Writer will have primary responsibility for the design, creation, editing and updating of product documentation for the Axioma Risk product. Axioma Risk is a fully customizable and interactive platform for multi-asset class risk modeling and reporting. In addition you will create and edit product tutorials and technical contributions for Axioma’s ongoing marketing efforts.
The writer needs to be capable of documenting complex business processes. Ideally, the person should be able to work from interviews with members of the research and development teams to develop descriptions of the business processes supported by Axioma Risk and describe conceptually how the product is used to improve those processes. Additionally, the technical writer will document at a low-level how to use the features of Axioma Risk.
We use Scrum and other agile practices, and expect technical writers to participate in improving our processes and practices. It is essential that you can work collaboratively in our team environment.
Responsibilities:
• Work with internal team members to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
• Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
• Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities.
• Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and developer guides.
• Create tutorials to help end-users learn the application.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• At least five years’ experience with technical writing, technical communication, or documentation creation/management. Consulting work for a wide variety of clients a plus
• Excellent interviewing and research skills, particularly the ability to extract information from subject matter experts.
• Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
• Experience producing a wide variety of documentation outputs, including training materials, online help, PDF or print manuals, white papers, reference guides, etc.
• Ideally, some familiarity with market risk management systems, software-as-a-service or actuarial software
• Excellent written skills in English
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of MS Word’s equation editor and LaTex helpful
• Familiarity with online-help authoring systems, such as RoboHelp, Eclipse help, DocToHelp, or Madcap Flare
• Familiarity with content management systems
• Ability to create simple graphics (screenshots with callouts, flowcharts, diagrams in programs like Visio, Photoshop, or Paint Shop Pro
• Knowledge of agile development methodologies helpful
