Position Summary:

We are searching for a Senior Technical Writer that will research, design, write, revise, and distribute high quality, accurate technical documentation, which may include several types of documents.

Responsibilities:

Research, design, write, revise, and distribute high quality, accurate technical documentation, which may include the following types of documents.
User Guides – Summarize information from engineering reports and hands on experience into a user guide format, such as: communication of safety protocols, step by step product operation, software, trouble-shooting, ‘quick start’ protocols, set-up/assembly, etc.
Product Launch Documentation Support – Summarizing of engineering report data and results into a format for marketing use in launch documentation. Effectively communicate test methodologies and results from all phases of product qualifications.
Publications and Presentations –Assist engineers and scientists with the presentation of research findings for use in publications in the field of bioprocessing.
Engineering and Scientific Internal Reports – Assist R&D personnel with editing of technical reports related to readability, grammar, punctuation, clarity, adherence to business unit standards, and organization/presentation of data within the report. Create summary documents of such reports for commercial use.
Commercial Documents – Serve as the technical interface with marketing personnel on launch documentations, formatting of user guide and other customer-facing materials.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and multi-functional groups in document development
Foster the design, development, and implementation of innovative approaches to documentation needs and issues
Manage documentation projects consisting of multiple, interdependent, complex deliverables
Provide expertise in analyzing audiences, information needs, and tasks
Generate graphics and photographs for inclusion in technical documentation
Serve as a technical interface with marketing personnel and product managers for launch documents such as data sheets
Assist technical personnel with editing of technical reports, the presentation of research findings, and adherence to standards
Assist in creating standardized work instructions (SOPs, WIDs, FCDs, etc) for the Research and Development department
Lead, direct, and assist in process improvement and respond to corrective or preventive actions related to documentation, as required
Leads, directs, and manages documentation project planning, estimating, and reporting
Serves as a consultant for issues related to document production and distribution, as required
Minimum Qualifications:

4-year college degree, preferably in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or Instructional Design; a master’s degree in a technical communications field is preferred
8 or more years of experience writing customer-facing documents, preferably in an engineering or scientific industry
Excellent written communication (grammar, punctuation, and syntax) skills
Ability to interact well with a variety of personalities at all levels of the organization
Demonstrated proficiency in new document development and multiple delivery methods
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Experience in documentation project management and estimating
Experience in team leadership, problem-solving and decision making
Good attention to accuracy and detail
Strong interviewing skills
Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
Expertise in photography and illustration techniques
Expertise in page design and layout
Experience with electronic document control systems desired
Experience in bioprocessing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or a closely related field desired
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

4-year college degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or Instructional Design.
8 or more years of experience writing customer-facing documents in an Engineering or Research/Development environment
Excellent written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft word processing and spreadsheet software
Proficiency with Adobe InDesign
